Azriel Clothing started with the idea to make sick clothes at an affordable price all the while helping others less fortunate. Founded in Bend, Oregon Azriel is a socially conscience company with a deep rooted belief in helping the community and others around them. 10% of everything Azriel sells goes to children’s charities. Along with this Azriel is currently working on a shirt project to financially aid the family of Tyler Eklund, a 14 year old snowboarder who was paralyzed at a competition this last year.

Tyler Eklund, The Bend, Oregon 14-year old paralyzed in a snowboarding accident in Nevada is now recovering at Portland’s Legacy Emanuel Hospital. Tyler suffered an injury to the C3 section of his vertebrate in a snowboarding accident this last winter. The nerves in his body are not healing like doctors had hoped. When he injured these nerves, the damaged extended downwards, and while lower body nerves such as ones of hands of fingers can heal themselves, the nerves in the spine cannot.

Doctors say he will only be able to use the top 2 segments of spine and his head. Theses sections do not include control of his extremities or lungs. Chances are he will need a respirator for the rest of his life and a home to accommodate his immobility.

75% of every shirt sold goes to the Eklund family to help in aide the construction and renovation of their house to make it accessible for Tyler.

I’ve been working at boardriding industry for about 5 years, make a lot of good connection, get to know the industry better through industry reports until i left my (corporate) work last month. The picture of the industry in my head is full of fake corporates, jocks and ignorance. That’s how i left anyway.

So it’s a very nice feeling everytime i find a cool company in the industry exist not only for the money and sh*t (who don’t like money anyway, i just want to continue to have money with style…) but also for a good cause. Which is rare to find these days.

Quiksilver continue to grow its customer base beyond its surf, snow and skateboarder roots. The company has hired Greg Perlot, strategic director and co-founder and partner of its Los Angeles shop 72 and Sunny, as its top American marketing director.

Greg Perlot, 44, will become senior VP-marketing of Quiksilver Brands Americas, reporting to its president, Steve Tully. Mr. Perlot has been working as a “creative consultant” to the company for three years, the company said in announcing the hire.

The Nixon Art Mosh is a rotating art installation open for one evening of fun featuring the artwork from local artists, athletes and friends. The November 16th stop will also showcase items from Nixon’s exclusive LTD Collection, featuring watches made from Tony Hawk’s skatedeck as well as the leather jacket from Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler.

Featured artists include: Taylor Dunfee, Grant Brittain, Chivo, Dustin Ortiz, Tyler Nelson, Michael Carter, Dave Swift, Rob Machado, Axel Pauporte, Anthony Ghiglia and Randy Laybourne

The PacSun community (www.pacsunteam.com), on Loop’d Network, will offer sponsorship opportunities to amateur surfers, skaters and snowboarders, and provides a forum for them to interact with other athletes, fans and enthusiasts.

Beginning Nov. 5, PacSun will launch a nationwide effort on Loop’d Network that will enable the company to find surfers, skaters and snowboarders to sponsor through its online community. In addition, PacSun will leverage Loop’d Network’s interactive features to directly connect with community members.

But here’s my story. I used to skate and surf since 1992; and I used to be in a self-financed band for years. These activities take more than half of my life. My background was 15 years in independent music industry, 2 years at managerial level in Boardriding-related fashion industry and a master degree of entrepreneurship management.

So I used to work at Volcom Indonesia at 2002 in Bali, and I used to own and run my music management company back in Bandung while I took a graduate business degree range from 2003 – 2006. Since late 2006, me and my family moves to Bali, to work for my old boss here at City Surf, a boardriding-related fashion retail chain. So I have experienced working at both industries.

In music industry, I initiate to sign 2 bands to the biggest major label in Indonesia, Sony BMG while also initiate to sign endorsement deals with Electric Sunglasses, Quiksilver and Volcom.

However, I can see that Sony BMG differently treated bands than Volcom treated their athletes.This is a simple and rather dummy example but please imagine this in other practice. Sony BMG doesn’t even call you back on hung up calls while Volcom will call you back instantly. I can’t understand this. Bands and artists are the source of income for music labels while athletes are mostly cost cows for boardriding companies. But how could they treat their money like that?

So I come to a conclusion that Boardriding companies treat their stakeholders better than music companies. I think that’s why music industry are at flaws and will continue to suffer from their idiocy. Fat music executives shall prepare their coffin.
